Roof inspection by drone
A drone survey provides overview and detail images of accessible roof surfaces, flashing, junctions and gutters. These images help identify areas that need closer examination.
What do we capture?
High-resolution RGB photographs can document visible damage, loose components, vegetation and debris. Multiple viewing angles clarify location and extent. Ordinary images alone cannot establish the condition of concealed structures, watertightness or moisture within the roof.
How can the data be used?
The images can support maintenance plans, contractor quotations and documentation before and after repairs. Repeated inspections with comparable views help track changes. Relevant specialists should assess observations before repairs are selected.
What can we document?
- Broken, loose or displaced roof tiles and roof sheets
- Damaged roofing felt and membranes on flat roofs
- Loose or corroded flashing, chimney flashing and barge boards
- Blocked gutters, downpipes and drains full of leaves and needles
- Moss, lichen and vegetation on the roof covering
- Damage to chimneys, chimney caps and brickwork above the roof
- Storm damage and fallen debris after bad weather
- Ponding water, blisters and cracks in membranes
- Roof windows, vents, snow guards and roof ladders
Drone images show visible signs. Causes, extent and remedies must be assessed by a relevant specialist.
Deliverables and models
Deliverables may include organised roof photographs and a summary of observations. A photogrammetric 3D model requires a separately agreed capture plan, coverage and measurement accuracy requirements.
